Looking for something to do with the kids on Monday, January 21? There is no school in Warrick County that day and it’s too cold to play outside. Come to the Children’s Activity Room at Ohio Twp. Central Library and make your own snowstorm! We’ll make cool snowflakes (using watercolor paints), have a snowball fight and do some other fun stuff, too. No need to sign up-just stop by our Activity Room anytime between 1:00-6:00PM to play.

Seems like just yesterday I was posting that our December calendars were ready and here it is, almost Christmas! The bad news is that I am not ready for that yet; the good news is that the January calendar of events is ready. The printed copy is available at the Children’s Desk. Just a reminder that all branches of Ohio Township Public Library System (downtown Newburgh, Central and Chandler) will be closed on Wednesday, October 17 for staff training. We’re sorry for the inconvenience to our patrons, but our staff members are looking forward to learning new ways to provide better service!
Celebrate Star Wars Reads Day this Saturday at the Library. Central Children’s Department staff will show you how to fold an easy origami Yoda figure from paper. Ohio Twp. Central Children’s Department is pleased to announce a new series of programs, aimed at parents and their young children (ages 18 months-6 years old). The first one will be Monday evening, August 27, from 6:00-7:00PM. Miss Jenny, who is one of our resident early literacy experts, will show parents how they can reinforce literacy skills for their young children through playing games. She will also introduce our “Early Literacy Collection;” books that have activities for parents to use with their young children. Kids will be actively involved in the activities, too!
While she won’t be teaching kids to read or even teaching parents how to teach their kids to read, she will be teaching/demonstrating how parents can play with their kids to develop the early literacy skills they will need when they are ready to learn to read. After a brief introduction from Miss Jenny, the parents and their kids will move around to different play stations to try out the activities, all of which can also be done at home.
Each family will also receive a take-home pack, which has the activities listed on them, so you can do them at home, too! Each month, more cards will be added to your pack.
For more information or questions about the program, call the Children’s Dept. at 812-853-5468, ext. 306 or e-mail email@example.com.
Celebrate the start of the school year with a “Back to School Bash” at the Library this Friday – 8/10/12 – from 10:00-10:45AM. We will play School Bingo (using pictures, so even non-readers can play), play Stack the Apples, have a School Scavenger Hunt, make a Back-to-School Snack, have a photo op booth and do other fun stuff, too! Kids, ages 3-12, are invited to attend. NOTE: This is not a drop-in program; we begin at 10:00AM with a group activity. For allergy concerns, check with Children’s Staff on Thursday afternoon to see what the snack will be.
Questions? Call the Children’s Dept. at 812-853-5468, ext. 306 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
We have had a great Summer Reading Program this year! And we plan to have a great line-up of Fall programs, too, so I am sad to announce that the Summer Reading Program will end this Friday, July 20, when the Library closes at 5:00PM. No coupons will be awarded after that time. But don’t stop reading or visiting the Library! Starting Monday, we’ll have our “Guess How Many Beads” game going on – come in and make your best guess at how many beads got put down the “twirly tube” into the bead jar this summer. A prize will be given to the person who comes closest without going over the number. (Any volunteers to help us count?)
We will have all of our regular storytimes in August, plus a “Back to School Bash” and “Lego Club.” Check out the on-line calendar to see what is in the line-up!
