If you missed our “Oooey Gooey Fun” program at Ohio Twp. Central Children’s Dept. this morning, you missed a great time! Kids played with cooked spaghetti in chocolate pudding (lots of “eeeewwwws” on that one), make slime with 1 part cornstarch and 1 part water, searched for items hidden in water beads, played with shaving cream and mixed up “cloud dough.” Our non-scientific survey of kids and parents showed that the cloud dough was the favorite. To make it, you mix 8 parts of all-purpose flour with 1 part baby oil. Let your kid mix it together, then play with it like playdough. It is crumbly, but it can be molded, rolled out like pizza dough and whatever else the kid can think of to do with it. Lots of our kids just like squishing it in their hands in the bowl. Let your kid decide how he wants to play with it – a ton of fun for a few pennies worth of supplies.
Check out our on-line calendar @ www.ohio.lib.in.us/children/calendar-central to see all the programs we have scheduled for March. You can also call us at812-853-5468, ext. 306 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org .
Did cabin fever hit you and your kids? These programs will all be held at Ohio Twp. Central Children’s Department and all are FREE!
Wed., Feb. 19 – Explorer’s Club, 3:30 PM, ages K-4. We will explore the penny with a story, experiments and a craft! Please respect our age limits: younger siblings are invited in near the end of the program to participate in the craft with the “big kids.”

Mon., Feb. 24 – Giggles and Games, 6:00PM, ages 18 mo – 7 years. We will feature several stations for parents and their kids to experience. Included will be games, crafts and snacks. Kids will have so much fun playing, they won’t realize they are learning important skills for when they learn to read. Parents will also receive a take-home packet of activities to do at home. Start now to raise a reader!
We’ll get started celebrating Valentine’s Day this Friday, Feb. 7, with Fabulous First Friday at Ohio Twp. Central Library! Kids, ages 2-6, gather at 10:00AM to hear a Valentine story, then move around to different stations to play games and make some crafts. We won’t have snacks this time, but kids are invited to bring Valentines to share with the other kids.
To keep with our Valentine theme, we’ll have a drop-in craft on Sat., Feb. 8. Kids of all ages can stop by the Children’s Department anytime between 10:00AM-3:00PM to make Valentine’s cards.
For working parents, we will host Family Craft Time on Monday, Feb. 10. Families can come by the Children’s Activity Room between 5:00-7:00PM to make a “Valentine Acts of Kindness” centerpiece. The whole family can work on this craft together.
