Now I have never been on the Twilight fanboat. In fact, I have never read any of the Twilight books! I know that has probably just shocked over half of you, but to slightly redeem myself, I have watched the movies and love the movies. If you are a fan of the books or a fan of the movies or both, keep reading closely for some great new books along the same theme. These are hidden gems back in our Teen area. Some of you may say I am too old for teen books, but I disagree. You are never too old for teen books. They are fun, lively, and great reads just like any book in the adult area.
The series is called Vampire Kisses by Ellen Schrieber and is all about vampires and humans. Sorry, there are no werewolves of any kind. You have the heroine, Raven, who is the ultimate goth girl dreaming of all things vampire. She lives in Dullsville, which if your imagination is used correctly could be one of our very own small towns in the area, and she sticks out like a vampire surrounded by sunlight. Her life’s goal is to become a vampire ever since she was little.
The hero is our very own vampire, Alexander. Now Alexander is everything a traditional vampire should be–he doesn’t sparkle, has a horrible allergy to garlic, and can never make sure he has spinach in his teeth. He also has great super vampire powers as well as a heart of gold, which makes these stories all the sweeter. Alexander is hiding out in Dullsville’s oldest mansion for reason unknown at the moment.
I’m sure you can see how this would be a match made in moonlight, but you couldn’t be further from the truth. Through Raven’s mistakes and Alexander’s hang ups, the couple ends having as many ups and downs as a roller coaster at an amusement park. Then comes some mystery that surrounds Alexander, and they both end up saving Dullsville from some rather unsavory vampires. Raven and Alexander have to battle both sunlight, moonlight, Italian cooking and bad vampires to end up together.
But…I can’t for sure say they end up together through a journey that has lasted eight books, and they have been together as a couple. As the storyline and romance has progressed so too has Alexander and Raven. The eighth book leaves the couple in a positive light but with the uncertainty of whether they will end up together or not. I will have to wait just a few more months for what the author is claiming as the last installment of Vampire Kisses entitled: Immortal Hearts. Which definitely lends to a hopefully promising ending. I’m hoping that Raven and Alexander get the “happily ever after” that I want them to have.
