As the population ages, an increasing number of senior citizens will be targeted by con artists. According to the Better Business Bureau these scams often involve telemarketing, junk mail, sweepstakes offers, investment schemes, fraudulent Medicare offers, charitable giving, email scams, and funeral scams. Many of these victims don’t ask for help until it is too late!
The Ohio Township Central Library and H.E.L.P. (Healthcare Education Learning Partners) are collaborating for a Lunch & Learn program that will educate senior citizens and their families about how to recognize and avoid scams. This free lunch and informational session takes place on Wednesday, August 14 at 12:00 p.m. in the Diamond Room at the Ohio Township Central Library in Newburgh.
Jackie Heathcott, Trade Practice Specialist for the Tri-State Better Business Bureau will be the speaker. She will provide information to help seniors protect themselves against con artists.
